AlcoTec is seeking an Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager to join our Traverse City, Michigan Team!

Essential functions include working with the facility managers/supervisors, associates and the corporate EHS staff to develop and maintain a total EHS culture focused on risk management, compliance and engagement. The selected candidate will drive continuous improvement in EHS through involvement, ownership, education/training, recognition, ongoing program assessment and leadership. Serve as a point of expertise and leadership for EHS issues as they arise.

Specific duties, activities and responsibilities will include:

  • Providing leadership and direction in the development, administration and maintenance of EHS systems and continuous EHS improvement initiatives as they apply to the operations and Traverse City location
  • Nurturing and empowering a proactive EHS culture. Providing leadership, guidance, and instruction to drive organization towards articulated goals and continuous improvement
  • Participating in the fulfillment of compliance requirements and ESAB business standards. Apprising facility management of EHS issues and performance as needed.
  • Meeting and maintain the ESAB EHS management system certifications.
  • Developing, implementing and revising training programs to maintain employee engagement
  • Partnering with ESAB Corporate and Regional EHS team
  • Performing and overseeing investigation and corrective action for upset conditions, missed targets, accidents, or other EHS non-conformances.
  • Developing and managing annual EHS budget and will be accountable for EHS expenses and budget.
  • Collaborating with HR to manage facility workers' compensation claims. Assisting with insurance issues and management as necessary.
  • Serving as local incident commander in crisis events
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the Plant Manager or the Corporate EHS Office.
  • Representing the company with regulatory agencies, customers and auditors as required.

Qualified candidates will hold an Associates or Bachelors Degree in Safety, Environmental Sciences, Industrial Hygiene or a related line of study and have a minimum of 5 years of experience constructing and/or managing EHS programs, preferably in an engineering/industrial setting. Membership within EHS professional organizations such as the ASSE, AIHA, or NSC desired. CIH, CSP, and/or CHMM certifications preferred.

Qualified candidates will demonstrate the following knowledge and skill set:

  • Detailed understanding & previous involvement in formal EHS Management Systems
  • Excellent communication & motivational skills at all levels
  • Skilled user of Microsoft Office programs
  • Experienced in development of education & training programs
  • Human Relation Skills – ability to manage job and interpersonal relationships in a professional manner suitable for a supportive work environment; must be a "team player" and willing to support co-workers & staff
  • Strong project management and leadership skills
  • High energy and results focused
  • Ability to travel overnight up to 15%
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds, manipulate up to 1000 pounds, maneuver through awkward spaces and negotiate all the areas of the facility
